Students attending First Coast Technical Institute are provided
with a number of support services to help them have a successful
learning and training experience. At the Putnam and Clay county
centers, dates and times of student support services are posted
in the administration area.
COUNSELING
SERVICES
Professional counseling services are available to all students
and prospective students. The counselors at the Institute help
students make career and vocational choices and, when needed,
provide individual, personal, and career counseling. Transition
Specialists provide assistance to secondary ESE and adult special
needs students.
CAREER
CENTER
The Career Center aids students in determining technical aptitudes,
interests and needs as they relate to career and training choices.
Upon completion of an evaluation, recommendations can be made
to assist the Guidance Department in making suggestions for
positive, realistic vocational training and occupational placement.
The Career Center staff also provides employability skills and
resumes.
JOB
PLACEMENT
Job placement assistance is available at no cost to all students
seeking full-time or part-time employment. Mini-workshops entitled
"Employability Skills" are scheduled throughout the
year to assist students in job search techniques. This component
is required in most technical programs. Interested persons should
contact their instructors for details.
COOPERATIVE
EDUCATION (CO-OP)
The co-op program makes it possible for students to earn credit
toward graduation and/or course completion while working in
a job related to their courses of study at the Institute. To
be eligible for enrollment a student must:
Cooperative
education provides on-the-job occupational training and supervision
for students through the cooperative efforts of industry, business
and education. The programs combine classroom and lab experiences
with practical work experiences. Additional information may
be obtained from program instructors.

TO STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
Job-entry
technical skills training is available to disabled and handicapped
individuals commensurate with the individual's ability level,
the nature of the disabling condition, and the student's interest.
A wide range of evaluative and support services to high school
and adult disabled persons is available.
CAREER
NAVIGATORS
Career Navigators is an enriching program for youth and young
adults. Participants are helped to overcome barriers so they
may complete their education. This program will assist individuals
to successfully complete their career objectives.
Eligibility
Must be between the ages of 14 - 21.
A US Citizen or eligible non-citizen and have a valid Social
Security Card.
Have financial need and/or a specific barrier to completing
education.
Be interested in receiving additional support while earning
a high school diploma or short-term vocational certificate.
