MEDICAL ASSISTING PROGRAM

The Medical Assisting program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Upon completion of this 1300-hour program, the student is eligible to sit for national certification exams offered by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) and the American Medical Technologists (AMT).

Medical Assisting is a multi-skilled allied health profession in which practitioners work primarily in ambulatory settings such as medical offices and clinics. Medical Assistants function as members of the health care delivery team and perform administrative and clinical procedures.

The program prepares students for employment as Medical Assistants, Phlebotomists, ECG Technicians, and Office Managers. According to the Source, approximate starting salaries range from $16,400 to $23,000. Job placement is 100%.

Administrative skills Computer skills, word processing, medical terminology, transcription, scheduling appointments, medical correspondence, billing and coding and insurance processing.

Clinical skills Vital signs, heights, weights, obtaining specimens, performing laboratory tests, obtaining patient history, assist with minor surgery, sterile technique, pharmacology, medication administration, phlebotomy, basic ECG, principles in radiology, and physical therapy.
